Feature Artist : Troy Abbott
Artist Statement:
Troy
Abbott is exploring the issues of Perception and Reality. His work
focuses on Technology and Shamanism. How do we experience what is Real
in a world that is increasingly artificial? He is interested in delving
into the "experience" of something and not the thing itself. How does
the 'new' version of an old idea or concept make us feel, make us
think, make us react? What is the sensation of experiencing that which
is not physically real but imaginary in the physical world? A HYBRID
REALITY, part physical and part synthetic.
The
cage represents the physical boundary of the human body and it’s
limited potential. The player within the work represents the mind
dreaming or thinking the bird into existence. The bird itself
represents the human soul, not tangible, created by light, it is a pure
expression of energy.
